Sydney’s Experts in Gum Contouring and Grafting
Carried out in our Sydney CBD clinic, our gum contouring and grafting procedures dramatically transform the appearance of your smile. With minimal downtime, achieve your ideal smile by making small alterations to the shape of your gums and teeth. If you’re showing too much gum or want to change the look of your smile, gum contouring or grafting could be for you.
What is Gum Contouring?
A minimally-invasive procedure, gum contouring reshapes your gums and removes excess gum tissue utilising state-of-the-art laser technology. At Pitt St Dental Centre, our cosmetic dentists gently remove and treat gums without cuts or incisions. A straightforward and painless procedure, our dentists help you reduce ‘gummy smiles’ and minimise the appearance of gum recession for a balanced and transformed smile.
As gum contouring involves the permanent removal of tissue, we strongly encourage you to do your research and choose a highly skilled and qualified dentist such as the team at Pitt St Dental Centre.
Is Gum Contouring Right for Me?
Are you self-conscious about your smile or feel like you’re showing too much gum? Gum contouring could be for you. Often caused by genetics, misaligned and protruding teeth, short lips or periodontitis, gums can appear disproportionate to the rest of your smile.
Excessive gum tissue won’t necessarily cause medical problems, but it can leave you feeling embarrassed or self-conscious about your smile. Our cosmetic dentists in Sydney help you transform your smile and confidence with minimally-invasive gum contouring. If your smile appears lopsided, uneven or out of proportion, gum contouring could be right for you.
What Happens in a Procedure?
Prior to any procedures, you must attend a consultation with one of Pitt St Dental Centre’s experienced and qualified cosmetic dentists. Here, we discuss your concerns and circumstances and provide you with realistic expectations about what we can achieve for your smile.
The gum contouring procedure is done in one appointment and absolutely no stitches are required.
Before the procedure begins, we administer a local anaesthetic to your gums. The type of anaesthetic varies per patient, but all render your gums numb for the duration of the procedure.
Your cosmetic dentist uses a purpose-built laser light that focuses on areas of excess gum tissue. The laser utilises thermal energy to reshape the gums and remove extra tissue.
Following your procedure, you’ll notice a dramatic change in the look of your smile, achieving aesthetic perfection. After your full recovery – up to two weeks – you’ll be left with a natural, balanced and transformed smile that suits your face.
What About Aftercare?
It takes up to two weeks to recover, and your cosmetic dentist will provide you with comprehensive aftercare support to minimise discomfort and concerns.
We recommend salt water rinses, avoiding irritating foods (including extremely hot, cold or spicy meals), regular brushing and gentle flossing.
At any point before or after your procedure, should you have any questions, our expert dental team is on hand for support. We’re able to guide you through the process with expertise to ensure you’re completely comfortable and confident with both the procedure and aftercare instructions.
At Pitt St Dental Centre, we utilise the innovative Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique to treat gum recession. A minimally-invasive procedure performed by adjusting existing tissue, our cosmetic dentists gently slide gum tissue over receded teeth. With no incisions or sutures required, there are minimal post-operative requirements and aftercare is relatively easy.
With the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique pain, discomfort and swelling is minimal. Results are almost instant, meaning a transformed smile in just one quick procedure.
What is Gum Recession?
Gum recession refers to the process of losing gum tissue along the gum line. This can appear as elongated, enlarged or exposed teeth. Often occurring as a result of periodontal disease, natural aging or abrasive dental habits, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is an ideal minimally-invasive option for gum restoration and transforming the look of your smile.
What is the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique?
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, and all tools and practices, were created by Dr John Chao. A minimally-invasive solution ideal for gum recession and restoration, the technique involves making a small hole in existing gum tissue. Special instruments are used to loosen gum tissue then expand and slide the gum line to its desired position. Involving a readjustment of existing tissue, The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is completely scalpel, suture and incision free.
What are the Benefits?
Performed at Pitt St Dental Centre, gum grafting with the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique has a number of benefits. Patients experience less discomfort, faster recovery times and minimally-invasive techniques. There’s no need for sutures, scalpels or donor tissue from a patient’s palate. What’s left is a natural, long-lasting and flawless smile.
